CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Special edition on healthy food policy
Deadline: June 20, 2014
The Journal of Science Policy & Governance (JSPG) is partnering with the Science Network at the Union of Concerned Scientists to publish a special edition on healthy food policy. This effort is being launched in conjunction with the May 6 Science and Democracy Forum: How Citizens, Scientists, and Public Health Advocates Can Partner to Forge a Better Future.
Incidence of diet-related chronic disease in the United States has grown at an unprecedented rate over the past half century. This epidemic threatens to reverse public health gains, which reduced or eliminated infectious diseases and increased lifespan and quality of life. To better align our desired health outcomes with our food policies, they must reflect today’s scientific evidence concerning the “food environments” we create and the relationship between Americans’ diet and our health. In this edition, we seek innovative research-based policy approaches drawing from the fields of public health, economics, sociology, agriculture, and others oriented toward enabling a healthy food environment. We are seeking submissions from current students (undergraduate or graduate) and recent graduates within three years of earning a degree (bachelors, masters, or doctoral). Acceptable formats:
Policy Memos:
· Maximum of four pages or 2000 words
· One paragraph executive summary
· Must be directed to an individual or organization
Policy Analyses:
· Maximum of 30 pages
· Must include a one page executive summary
· Must include policy recommendations
Op-Ed:
· Maximum of 1000 words
· Must include policy or governance implications
Submissions must include all authors and institutional affiliations as well as keywords. Articles selected for publication will be edited and reviewed by two Associate Editors and the Editor-in-Chief. Prior to publication, authors will be required to submit a one paragraph biographical statement and complete a copyright transfer statement. Authors must disclose all sources of funding and relationships that could be perceived as potential conflicts of interest.
Submissions should be in Word or Word compatible format. All submissions should be double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman or 11 point Calibri font with 1” margins and page numbers. The primary author’s last name should be on every page as a right-aligned footer. Citations may be submitted in any standard format (MLA, APA, etc.), but selected articles will be published in APA format.
Questions and/or submissions should be sent to jofspg@gmail.com with “healthy food policy” in the subject line.
