The Journal of Science Policy & Governance is pleased to announce the release of Volume 28, Issue 01, the journal’s first standard issue of 2026.

"JSPG is proud to publish this excellent collection of articles that addresses a wide range of emerging and pressing policy topics including artificial intelligence, environmental conservation, biomedical research policy, and more.  With the release of this issue coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, these articles highlight the key role that scientists can play in shaping a wide range of policy issues, and the importance of training early-career scientists to engage with emerging science policy topics."

This latest volume features ten articles from emerging and early-career science policy scholars tackling some of the most pressing issues in science and technology today. The research spans a diverse array of modern challenges, including the environmental impacts of AI infrastructure, the safeguarding of AI against disinformation campaigns, and the deployment of post-quantum cryptography to address digital data security concerns. The issue also features critical environmental and public health insights, ranging from policy memos on EPA insecticide regulations and animal cloning to strategic approaches for mitigating methane emissions. Additionally, authors explore harm-reduction frameworks for psychedelics and Schedule I substances, the ecological threat of microplastics in our water, and the governance of NASA's planetary data beyond Earth.  

Together, this wide-ranging collection of articles demonstrates that early-career researchers serve an essential function in sharing the landscape of science policy, offering vital insights for the future of global governance.
